Mauro Leads Bloomsburg Softball Past Lock Haven

BLOOMSBURG -Lacy Mauro's (Jersey Shore/Jersey Shore) two-out RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning lifted the Bloomsburg University softball team to a 2-1 victory over sixth-ranked Lock Haven in game two of a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon. The Huskies fell in game one by a score of 1-0.
In game two, Bloomsburg took a 1-0 in the top of the first when Mandy Koch (Dauphin /Central Dauphin) singled in Nikki Shiko (Kulpmont/Sothern Columbia). It would stay that way until the sixth inning, when Lock Haven's Amanda Roosa singled in Ilia Lopez to tie the game at one apiece. In the in the bottom of the eighth, Lock Haven's Kristin Erb retired the first two batters before Shiko drove a base hit into center field. A passed ball surrendered by Lock Haven catcher Nancy O'Connor allowed Shiko to reach second, setting up Mauro's heroics. Mauro hit a line drive between first and second base and the throw from Lock Havne's Erica Eisenbise was on target, but Shiko dove under the tag of O'Connor to score the winning run.
Shavaun Fisher (Coplay/Allentown Central Catholic) (10-1) picked up the win for Bloomsburg, while Erb took the loss for Lock Haven.
In game one, the game was scoreless until the 7th when Lopez doubled in Julia Popvich for the only run of the game. Erb would pick up the game one victory for Lock Haven, while Tara Reed (Williamsport/Williamsport) (8-3) took the loss for Bloomsburg.
With the split, the Huskies improve to 20-4, 5-1 in the PSAC Central.
Bloomsburg returns to action on Tuesday when they host Mansfield. Game one of the doubleheader begins at 2:30 p.m.
